Black and Silver Sequins for Prom

Hey Hey Hey!!!!

I have no excuse so…let’s talk about fashion. Here’s something I made in May as part of my contribution to prom season:) I had to pleasure of designing and making a prom dress for one of my favourite people. This young lady is such a testimony, I just love her, and she does the funniest Nigerian accents, lol. She was such a laid-back client πŸ™‚

Anyway, here’s the dress.Β It’s a fit-and-flare dress with sweetheart neckline and sequins on the bodice area, flowy a chiffon lower skirt and a sheer yoke for some coverage. I know it’s a prom dress but really prom dresses are evening dresses. Except for the crazy themed ones – I’m sure you’ve seen them…

And now the details:20150503_GaABlackSequinProm_08I went fabric shopping in the LA Fabric District with a friend and chose this lovely black and charcoal gray sequined lace – the sequins had a matte finish that was just lovely. I got some silver satin to underline it and provide some contrast.

Silver organza underlining for support. The sequin outer layer was “quilted” down because it was a bit heavy and the lace allowed for it.

I chose a zipper with metal silver teeth because why not? The dress is black and silver:) And yes, that is my design label – Gila ati Amour πŸ™‚ You may have noticed the hashtag on most of my garments.

Also, boning and waist stay because they are necessary, and horsehair braid on the skirt lining for some body.

Et volia, all done! Shipped and worn to party. I couldn’t wait for photos – she loved the dress and had a great time wearing it. What more could I want.

      Well done Lady.

      The dress looks just as lovely as the lucky wearer. It’s like the “coming of age” version of your blue spangled dress.

      Gila= “Joy” in Hebrew (I googled :-D)

      ati = “and” in Yoruba

      Amour= “Love” in French.
